ARTICLES AND DISSERTATIONS

  • Maria Wojtak : Artistic Language – Basic Areas and Manifestations of Polymorphism

    Artistic language is viewed as a typological category with open and vague borders. It has a special position in federal combination of variations in contemporary Polish, variations which intermingle with each other to create complicated compositions of multilevel references.

    Artistic language crosses the borders of the composition not only due to connections with its own tradition but also because of reaching the areas of the latest practical communication and joining the polarized space of contemporary culture.

    Being a typological category, artistic language is also a complex semiotic phenomenon. By accumulation of well known antinomies (left over from the 20th century), it creates new ones.

    The image of artistic language, as presented in the article, is a result of holistic approach, another viewing perspective, combining differentiation and relative and panoramic characteristics.

  • Stanisław Dubisz : Adam Mickiewicz in the History of Polish Artistic Language
    The aim of the article is to present the role of Adam Mickiewicz in the formation of Polish artistic language. The presentation includes remarks on the relations of Mickiewicz’s idiolect and general Polish of the first half of the 19th century; characteristics of Mickiewicz’s method of writing in the three periods of his literary biography; a description of the role of the poet in the development of Polish poetry from the 16th to the 20th century. The paper is concluded with an example of the analysis of the function of lexical level in A. Mickiewicz’s lyrical poems (Kurhanek Maryli, Na Alpach w Splugen) and in Skład zasad. The study is an attempt to give a cross-view on creative factors and mechanisms of artistic creation in Mickiewicz’s poetry. Theoretical assumptions and methods of analysis place the article in the area of structuralist stylistics.
  • Urszula Sokólska : A Few Remarks on Conceptualization of Abstracts in Adam Asnyk&s Poetry
    The article is an attempt to analyze the way in which Adam Asnyk&s poetry abstracts are conceptualized. The paper focuses on lexemes naming abstracts directly, like smutek, skarga, radość (sadness, complaint, joy) and includes mainly a number of words and phrases associated with indicated notions, together with metaphorical connections, which are vital in presentation of separate notions, e.g. by relating abstracts to the human and floral world, as well as to the world of elements, various objects etc. There is also a remark on the evaluating function of the context and resulting from it shifts in the area of meanings included in dictionary definitions of abstract notions.
  • Danuta Bieńkowska : Reymont%s Word Art
    The article is an attempt of a full description of the artistic style of Władysław Stanisław Reymont’s prose. This huge multi-thematic prose of the Nobel Prize winner, which could be ascribed to several literary poetics (realistic-naturalistic, impressionistic, symbolical and expressionistic), characterizes with variety and syncretism of stylistic-linguistic formation of literary texts. There are three main stylistic codes typical of Reymont’s writing:
    • the simple style associated with the poetics of realistic-naturalistic prose, used to present outer, material and objective reality. Its characteristic feature is mimesis, i.e. the use of native language variations for to achieve stylization;
    • the rich style associated with the influence of impressionistic poetics on Reymont’s writing technique. Its characteristics are details, solidity, concrete shape and impressive character;
    • the overloaded style associated with expressionistic poetics, used in order to present inner reality, the subjective and spiritual world of feelings and emotions. Its characteristics include: lofty tone, moody, lyrical, poetic, symbolic, mysterious character.
